  13. Forbidden City • The leader Zhu Di wanted to move the capital to Beijing in 1403 • Felt it was a strong place for the military to be centered in northern China • Common people were not allowed to enter Forbidden City complex

  14. Forbidden City • Divided into three sections • Enclosed by a moat and a wall • 800 rooms, 3 auditoriums, 100 offices • Completed in 1421 • No longer off limits to public

  15. Fall of the Ming • Zhu Di felt there was no limit to his abilities. • Soldiers were not getting paid, and started forming rebel groups • Rebels invaded the city, and Zhu Di hung himself • Manchu invaders took over the Forbidden City
