  5. Core Courses Every student takes: • Language Arts • Math • Social Studies • Science • Three Electives

  6. 7th & 8th Grade Schedule • Language Arts: Every day for two periods. • Math: Every day for one period. • Science: Every day for one period. • Social Studies: Every day for one period. • Electives: three electives that meet every day—one of these will be athletics or PE.

  7. Sample Schedule • Athletics/PE (or other elective) • ELAR • ELAR • Math • Band (or other elective) • Social Studies • Science • Elective

  8. Target Math • Students who are not successful on TAKS Math will be required to take Target Math. This means the child will lose an elective.

  9. Pre-AP Courses • Challenging courses for motivated students • Course content at greater depth and pace than academic courses • More of a requirement of students regarding analytical assignments and work outside of class • 7th and 8th grades: ELAR, math, science, and social studies

  10. Pre-AP Courses Are Not- • A method of tracking students • Differentiated from academic courses by projects • The only way to adequately prepare students for high school courses • Advanced Placement (AP) courses

  11. Pre AP Contract Required • Signed at the beginning of the school year. • Maintain an 80 average. • Parent choice to go in. • School choice to come out.

  13. Other Levels of Courses • ESL: Non or limited English speakers. • Special Education: Continuum of services. • Gifted and Talented: Identified GT students. (Not an option on registration form)

Electives • All electives meet everyday. • Electives are either a semester long or for the entire year. • Cheerleading and drill team are after school activities and students must have a physical on file. • If a student participates in athletics he must be in the athletic period. Students will be placed in the athletic period after they have a physical on file.
