Podemos atribuir a Gutenberg la utilización de tipos móviles de metal no usados anteriormente. • Lo que se sabe con certeza es que Gutenberg construyó, entre 1436 y 1450, un aparato que logró fundir satisfactoriamente las letras metálicas que usó en sus primeros libros, con las cuales imprimió su famosa Biblia en 1455.

  3. Gutenberg en realidad no inventó nada, ya se habían desarrollado técnicas de la impresión y de la fabricación de papel. Los orfebres ya sabían fabricar buriles y ya utilizaban prensas con tornillo. Pero nadie había reunido estos inventos. • El ingenio del impresor alemán lo llevó a desarrollar un artefacto mecánico verdaderamente eficaz para la reproducción de textos escritos. Así se le puede considerar como el verdadero padre del libro moderno, inaugurando la industria editorial en occidente.
