  8. What will we be doing this year?

  9. Materials Needed • Your Own Notebook Paper • Pencils and an Ink Pen (blue or black) • Colored Pencils • Glue Stick • Spanish I: Index Cards to Make Flashcards • Notebook (3 – Ring Binder or Folder)

  10. Textbook Spanish I & II ¡Así se dice!

  11. Computer Technology Beginning with chapter 1 of the textbook, you will find information keywords and a web address to access a practice/study site for each chapter’s vocabulary and grammar. The computer quizzes and activities will be assigned for a grade.

  15. Guideline# 1 Be in your assigned seat and working on the assigned bell work when the tardy bell rings.

  16. Mi Diario People are always making lists… Lists like… “5 Things I Will Do Before I Turn 30” So, I want you to make a list titled… “5 Things I Will Not Do Before I Turn 30”

  17. Guideline# 2 No put downs, shut ups or laughing at anyone EVER – living or dead.

  18. Guideline# 3 WORK… When I ask you to work.

  19. Guideline# 4 Do not TALK when someone has the floor.

  20. Guideline# 5 No food or drink in the classroom (this includes gum).

  21. Guideline# 6 No CELL phones, iPods, iPads, Mp3 players, laptops or other electronic devices are to be in use or in view during class.

  22. SpecialGuideline This classroom is a “No Whining Zone”. That means that there will be no whining, for ANY reason. Everything that I do is in your best interest, so please respect the “No Whining Zone” this year.

  23. Following Guidelines will result in: • Verbal acknowledgement • A stress-free learning environment • A pleasant and orderly classroom atmosphere

  24. Not Following Guidelines will result in . . . • 1st • Verbal Warning and documentation • 2nd • Teacher / Student Conferenceand/or • Parental Contact and lunch detention • 3rd • Disciplinary Referral – to Administrator

  25. Severe Clause Any student who uses hate speech, fights, damages school property (this includes the property of the teacher and other students), or is disrespectful (as defined by the teacher) will be sent to the office IMMEDIATELY.

  27. Entering the Room • Please enter quietly. • Have a seat. • Take out your materials. • Begin bellwork assignment.

  28. …when you are tardy… • Enter quietly. • Excused: Place excuse in • the basket on my desk. • Unexcused: Place unexcused in the basket on my desk. • Have a seat and take out • your materials.

  29. TARDIES Logan High School uses the Tardy Tracker. If you are late you must obtain a tardy ticket from Mr. Atkinson to be admitted to class. Tardies are counted across the board and not just by class. After 2 tardies consequences will be enforced.

  30. Getting Your Attention I will . . . • Stand in front of the class. • Raise my hand. • Wait for everyone to be quiet • Begin speaking.

  35. Anchor Activities Work on unfinished Spanish assignments. Read your “choice” novel. Work on your Diario responses. Review vocabulary words for the chapter Start working on tonight's homework.

CHEATING IS EVIL Cheating is: 1.) copying someone else’s homework, project, quiz, or test 2.) having a parent, friend or tutor do all, part, or help rewrite a paper or project for you 3.) translation from the Internet A student who cheats or assists someone to cheat receives a score of 0 on the assignment.

  37. Turning in Papers • Place your paper on the desk next to you. • If/When you receive a paper, place yours on top and continue passing the stack to your left. • I will come by and collect all stacks.

  38. Classroom Discussions • PLEASE participate. • I want to hear what you have to say. • Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion • If your question is off the topic, write it down and ask later.

  39. Moving Around the Room • You must ask permission. • Do not ask during a classroom discussion unless it is an emergency.

  40. Class Dismissal • The teacher dismisses you, not the bell. • Do not start packing up prior to the bell. • Wait until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses you with “HastaLuego”

  41. Be Aware of Your Speech… Spoken words are sound waves… Sound waves are made up of molecules… Molecules are composed of atoms… Atoms are the smallest unit of Living Matter… Therefore, Words do and are matter… Words are Power and once spoken can Never – Ever be taken back…

  42. …CONTROL… We can’t control everything that happens to us… But we can control how we respond to what happens to us…
