  2. What is Schizophrenia? Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that makes it hard to: *Tell the difference between what is real and not real *Think clearly *Have normal emotional responses. *Act normally in socialsituations

  3. What Are The Causes? *Experts are not sure exactly what causes Schizophrenia. They do think the genetics play a role. *Certain events may trigger Schizophrenia in people who are already at risk because of their genes *You are more likely to develop Schizophrenia if you have a family member that already has the disease. *Develops in both men and women

  4. Signs/symptoms *Irritable and Tense *Depression *Insomnia *Forgetful *Depression *Inappropriate laughing and crying *Odd or irrational statements *Flat *Inability to express self *Unable to concentrate *Delusions *Disorganized Speech *Withdrawl

  5. Meds Aripiprazole (ay ri pip' ray zole) ABILIFY * Dr. William H. Carson was on the board to help develop the drug * Add on drug * Helps by lessoning the amount of serotonin and dopamine in brain * Abilify is not a cure, it is simply used to lesson effects of disease
