  1. The IB Diploma Programmeat Kent Meridian High School The unique benefits of the DP

  2. What are the values behind the International Baccalaureate Organization?

  3. What is the Learner Profile? It’s the IB mission statement translated into a set of learning outcomes for the 21st century. IB learners strive to be: Inquirers Knowledgeable Thinkers Communicators Principled Open-minded Caring Risk-takers Balanced Reflective The attributes of the learner profile express the values inherent to the IB continuum of international education: these are values that should infuse all elements of the three programmes and, therefore, the culture and ethos of all IB World Schools. IB programmes promote the education of the whole person, emphasizing intellectual, personal, emotional and social growth through all domains of knowledge.

  4. There are Two Options for Juniors and SeniorsTaking IB Classes at KM: • The Certificate Programme, which allows you to choose which IB classes are best for you (for example, you might choose IB English and History, but not Math!) • The Diploma Programme, which requires six classes at the IB level, and the three additional required components:

  5. What does the Diploma Programme curriculum contain? IB Diploma Students study : • three subjects at higher level (HL),which are two-year courses • three subjects at standard level (SL), which are one-year courses • Complete all three parts of the core. *The IB Learner Profile and the core are central to the philosophy of the Diploma Programme.

  6. How well is the IB Programme recognized by universities? Or, “How will I be rewarded for all this hard work?!”The IB Diploma is widely recognized by the world’s leading universities. • The IB Diploma Programme is recognized at over 2,000 universities in 100+ countries • Most universities offer preferential admissions, scholarships and university credit to students who took IB classes and passed IB exams. • Students who attain the IB Diploma are often granted Sophomore standing upon enrollment at university. • Please access our database atwww.ibo.orgfor university admission policies in the United States and throughout the world!

  7. How does IB differ from Running Start? • Credits you receive by passing IB exams are accepted at universities all over the world; Running Start credits may not be accepted by out of state universities and/or private universities. Please take the time to research whether or not Running Start credits are accepted at the universities you’d like to attend! • All materials (textbooks, etc.) are provided for you in IB classes; Running Start requires that you purchase textbooks, pay fees, etc. • IB classes are available at KM; Running Start requires transportation to class. • Yes, you must pay to take IB exams, but if you’re free/reduced lunch there is a discount each year, which is determined by the US Department of Education. Running Start has no exam fees, but lots of other fees. • IB classes look great on your transcript! The IB Programme is regulated on an international level, and is well-respected world-wide as a rigorous course of study. Running Start is not regulated, which is why the credits you receive may not be transferable out of state or to private universities.
