  1. Structural formulas of molecules By Hans Maxime 5/22/13

  2. Structural formulas of molecules • A structure formula is two drawing that chemist uses to show how atoms on a molecule are connected. In structural formulas, covalent bonds represented as lines • HONC helping us remember bonding of Hydrogen,Oxygen,Nitrogen and Carbon in structural formulas. . Hydrogen (H) 1 bond .Oxygen(o) 2 bonds .Nitrogen(N) 3 bonds .Carbon (C) 4 bonds

  3. Double bonds and triple bonds still follow the Honc 1234. Draw the structural formulas for the following molecules • HF • CH4

  4. Examples • The structure formula of C3H3ON with one c-o double bond and one C-N Triple bond. • O=C-C-C=

  5. HONC 1234 means that • Hydrogen bonds time • Oxygen bonds time • Nitrogen bonds time • Carbon bonds time • 1 Covalent bonds mean that electrons are: • A) given to an atom b) borrowed from an atom • C) shared between two atoms d)taken away from an atom
