MULTI-TIERED SYSTEM OF SUPPORT *MTSS is a term used to describe an evidence-based model of schooling that uses data based problem solving to integrate academic and/or behavioral instructional and intervention. *The varying intensity (Multiple Tiers-Tier 1, 2, 3) based on student need. *Response to Intervention (RTI) is the process for implementing the MTSS Framework.

  5. What Is The Purpose Of MTSS, RTI/RTI:B, and CPST? BREAKING IT DOWN… *MTSS- THE ROAD, THE GPS, THE GUIDANCE *RTI/RTI:B- INTERSECTIONS *CPS TEAM- THE DRIVER OF THE CAR THAT HAS MANY PASSENGERS

  6. WWhat Do You Know About MTSS/RTI? Learning Goal The goal of this activity is to provide you with an overview of the MTSS/RTI process and the purpose of this framework or system. Directions Please read the following statements and sort them based on true or false.

StStrategy vs Intervention StStrategy InIntervention Supplemental to the general education curriculum Research or Evidence-Based of specific instructional strategies and techniques Falls under (Tier 2 and Tier 3 Umbrella) Consistently Monitored/Documented in BASIS 3.0 Tier 2- Every 2 Weeks Tier 3- Every Week • Effective instructional and behavioral practices that are systematically implemented • Generally falls under (Tier 1 Umbrella) • Teacher’s strategies are documented in the Teacher Strategies/Activities section in BASIS 3.0

For example- High Blood Pressure (Cozaar) Connect to Real Life Example Home remedies you take for a cold. For example, juice, a lot of liquids, cough drops, Vicks, or over-the-counter-medicine.

  12. FIRST STEP: “RTI DOCUMENTATION” • TEACHER TIER 1 SUPPLEMENTAL STRATEGIES HAVE TO BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO CPS REFERRAL. • CPS REFERRAL IS REQUIRED ONLY WHEN TEACHER TIER 1 STRATEGIES WERE NOT SUCCESSFUL.

  13. FIRST STEP: “RTI DOCUMENTATION” 3. INITIAL MEETING NOTE IS COMPLETED TO HELP PROBLEM SOLVE AND DETERMINE NEXT STEPS. 4. TIER 2/3 ACADEMIC OR BEHAVORIAL RECORD IS NEEDED WHEN THE CPST DETERMINES THE APPROPRIATE INTERVENTION
