  4. Mars Microbes • Like water, life also needs energy from the sun. Future missions to Mars will also be on the look out for other energy sources other than sunlight or in places where there is no sunlight. On earth, we know that we find life in a lot of places where sunlight never comes. Maybe on Mars, there are microbes that live below the surface that use a different energy source.

  5. Mars Water • On Earth, all forms of life always require water to survive . It is likely, but not certain , that if life ever evolved on Mars, it would have needed water. On Mars, we will search for evidence of life in areas where liquid water would be located . During the past 20 year NASA have been searching for water . 

  6. Climate • A top reason for Mars exploration is to understand the current climate of Mars, the past climate of Mars and why it changed over time. One of the most amazing weather events that happens on Mars is the huge dust storms. NASA scientists want to understand what causes them to develop and how they grow to cover the entire planet. In addition, they want to observe the weather patterns for an entire Martian year (687 Earth days) to understand all of its seasons as well as how it has changed over millions of years. 

  7. Geology • NASA scientists would like to explore the geology of Mars to find out how it became the planet we see today. How have wind, water, volcanoes, earthquakes, craters changed the surface of Mars over time? One thing they have already learned is that volcanoes on Mars are 10 to 100 times larger than those on earth because the crust doesn’t move the way it does on earth. Which means that lava from the volcano enlarges the volcano . They want to study the rocks to find out about mars`s. 

  8. Human Exploration • Eventually people will explore Mars . Getting people to Mars and back safely is an extremely important part of the challenge . To make the way for humans to go to Mars we are using flybys, landers, and rovers to scout the area. Then we send humans to the areas safest for landing. Also, Mars does not have an ozone layer which would cause deadly radiation to astronauts. Scientists are designing new suits that would protect them. 
