  4. Trustbusting and Regulating Industry • 1902 coal strike-TR helped the workers • Hepburn Act-gave gov. authority to set and limit shipping costs • Enforces Sherman Antitrust act • Regulate food and drug industries • Meat Inspection Act • Pure Food and Drug

  5. Government Manages Environment • Preserved national forests • Gifford Pinchot: preserve forests to make homes from lumber • Water • National Reclamation Act

  6. Roosevelt and Taft • Helped Taft win presidency • Expected him to keep on with policies • Taft’s own course • Passed many different acts that overturned TR’s policies • TR proposed New Nationalism
