  3. About our website We all know the world has its problems, particularly where the environment is concerned. But not too many of us know the details, and the stories behind those problems. On our website, many environmental problems, effects and disasters are described.

  5. ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS AND THEIR EFFECTS ON THE ENVIRONMENT

  6. Acid Rain There are many forms of acid rain that are seen around the world. In parts of the world where there is wet weather, there is acid rain, acid snow, and acid fog. In parts of the world where there is dry weather, there is acid gas and acid dust. All of the lakes and streams in the world are normally slightly acidic. Heavy rainstorms or melting snow can cause the acidity in lakes and in streams to increase. Acid rain is very harmful to the environment. Acid rain damages everything over a period of time because it makes the living things in the environment die. An example of acid rain.

  7. Global warming Global warming refers to the rising average temperature of Earth's atmosphere and oceans and its related effects. In the last 100 years, Earth's average surface temperature increased by about 0.8 °C (1.4 °F) with about two thirds of the increase occurring over just the last three decades. Warming of the climate system is unequivocal, and scientists are more than 90% certain most of it is caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases produced by human activities such as deforestation and burning fossil fuel. These findings are recognized by the national science academies of all the major industrialized countries. An example of Global Warming.

Some Practical Ways to Help the Environment! • Replace your single-paned windows with double-paned windows. • Turn off lights and electronic devices when you’re not using them. • Fix water leaks in the bathroom, kitchen, landscaping, etc. • Prevent energy leaks at home. • Lower your home thermostats! • Use a low-flow shower head. • Compost! • Use drip irrigation systems in your garden. • Plant trees in your yard and community. • Use a reel or electric lawn mower. • Use ceiling fans to cool off in the summer. • Use solar energy to dry your clothes! • Rethink transportation. • Use small, efficient devices to cook food. • Use some native plants in the garden. • Get involved locally! • Recycle!
