  5. A new role for Surveyors Moving: • from a technical to a managerial role. • from establishing mapping standards to enabling the production of bespoke social map making which recognizes occupancy rights. • from enforcing legal standards to influencing policy alternatives.

How can professional associations support these changes • Changing from a skill based towards community-based competency based frameworks. • Creating awareness programs and pilot projects with Private Sector, Government and NGO participation. • Use of Government and NGO contacts to create awareness.
