  1. the digestive system BY DANIEL VARGAS P7 SCIENCE

  2. WHAT IS DIGESTION • Digestion is how we break up food so our body can use the foods nutrients. Digestion is broken up in two: Mechanical Digestion and Chemical Digestion.

  3. MECHANICAL DIGESTION • Mechanical Digestion is the physical breaking of food

  4. CHEMICAL DIGESTION • Chemical Digestion is when chemicals called enzymes break food into molecules that your body can absorb.

  5. THE DIGESTIVE SYSYEMPARTS

  6. THE PANCREAS • The pancreas is an organ in the Digestive System that produces a lot of hormones including insulin and glucagon. It also contains digestive enzymes that assist the absorption of nutrients and the digestion in the small intestine. These enzymes help to further break down the carbohydrates and proteins

  7. THE STOMACH • The stomach's main function is digestion. It does this by: • Storing the food we eat. • Breaking down the food into a liquidly mixture called chyme. • Mixing enzymes which is are chemicals that break down food. • Slowly empties that liquidly mixture into the small intestine.

  8. THE LIVER • The main function of the liver is to purify blood. This organ plays a major role in metabolism and has a number of functions in the body, including glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells, plasma protein synthesis, hormone production, and detoxification.

  9. THE ESOPHAGUS • The esophagus seems to have only one important function in the body—to carry food, liquids, and saliva from the mouth to the stomach

  10. THE GALL BLADDER • The gall bladder stores and concentrates bile from the liver, and releases into the small intestine (duodenum) to further digest food there.

  11. THE LARGE INTESTINE • The large intestine is mostly a storage site for undigested. The large intestine and most absorption has occurred in the small intestine, water and electrolytes are still absorbed through the large intestine.

  12. THE SMALL INTESTINE • To pass out the food and conduct to the anus. Its where much of the digestion and absorption of food takes place.

  13. THE APPENDIX •  the function of the appendix is storing and protecting the good bacteria that aids in the digestion of food.

  14. THE RECTUM • The rectum is a muscular ring that is at the end of the large intestine. Its function is to keep the intestine sealed shut until the food we eat is digested and led out of the body.
