What is the National Student Survey (NSS)? • The NSS is an annual survey of final year undergraduates studying at universities across the UK • The survey is run byIpsos MORI on behalf of HEFCE. • It takes less than 10 minutes to complete • This year students have the chance to win one of four iPad minis.

  3. How are the results used? • Data and comments are used by the university and the Students’ Union to improve the student experience. The data helps us identify areas where we are doing well, as well as areas for improvement, so improving the student experience for future students • The NSS results are made available at Unistats.com and are used as part of the Key Information Set (KIS) on university’s websites to help future students make informed decisions of where and what to study.

  4. How to take part • Ipsos MORI will send you an email during the week of 07 January to invite you to take part in the survey • You can complete the survey at www.thestudentsurvey.com • Your responses to the survey are anonymous • Ipsos MORI may call you to ask you to complete the survey. Once you have completed the survey then Ipsos MORI will not contact you • The survey ends 30 April.

Past results • Last year 67% of final year undergraduate students completed the survey giving the University of Brighton an overall satisfaction score of 83 per cent • Detailed analysis of results is undertaken and considered by senior committees and at course, school and university level • You can find out examples of how the university has used NSS results by visiting student.brighton.ac.uk/nss/ • As well as the NSS, student opinion is also gathered via course and module surveys, opinion polls and questionnaires and through university staff and the Students’ Union.

Why should you complete the NSS? • It is your chance to tell us about your experience at university • You will be helping us to improve the student experience at the University of Brighton • You will be helping future students deciding where and what to study • You will have the chance to win one of four iPad Minis. You will also be helping to raise money for the Students’ Union.
