Collaborative Computing Problem/Opportunity: • Identify a tool that will satisfy and accommodate online learning between students and instructors • Create flexibility for students and instructors to allow virtual learning either at 100% online or blended • Attract more students and strengthencommunication with the School Districts, students, and parents by using this tool

  3. Opportunity Continued: • The solution will be easy to train on and learn by personnel • It needs to perform a variety of collaboration options: instant messaging, email, blog, wiki, document sharing/editing, audio and video conferencing, and easy to implement with Microsoft products

  4. Environment/Situation • Collaboration exists with Intermediate District 916 instructors, student case workers, counselors, parents, registered students and other pertinent staff in relation to the technical programs without new collaborative technology • The collaboration tool needs to be accepted by all school districts associated with this Intermediate District

  5. SharePoint vs. Google Apps(Cost) • Cost and licensing with SharePoint is an issue. • Google Apps for Education is free (Google Apps for Education, 2011)

  6. SharePoint vs. Google Apps (Microsoft Office Compatibity) • Microsoft Office (MS) applications have real-time functionality with SharePoint • The original Google Apps were created to be compatible with Microsoft Office applications

  7. SharePoint vs. Google Apps(Training/Learning) • Both SharePoint and Google Apps for Education offer free training tutorials and materials • Google offers a guide, frequently asked questions, resource center, an education community site, and online training center for using Google Apps

  8. SharePoint vs. Google Apps (Exchange/Email) • SharePoint can easily be incorporated with exchange for email because it is a Microsoft built application • Google Apps for Education offers instructions and a utility that migrate all of your mail, including labels and archived mail, to another account (Migrate data between, 2011)

Analysis/Recommendation(Google Apps for Education) + Google Apps for Education makes it easy to incorporate and use in a student’s home, for the student and parent + Google Apps are compatible with Microsoft applications, especially Office and Email - Presenting the importance of the tool and the need can be issue

Analysis/Recommendation • A closer team relationship can be built with the consortium of school districts and the intermediate district • The attraction of more students will raise the level of importance and need for technical education • Collaboration will bring more external people: parents, counselors, case workers into the overall progress of their students

  11. Analysis/Recommendation Continued: • The tool will allow an increase of knowledge to expand to the outside of the classroom using technology • Choices of courses would not be limited to student numbers or a student’s schedule
