Sokol • Sokol gymnastic organisation started its activities in Třebíč in 1882. • Unfortunately, the members did not have their own physical training centre. • An unfinished building was bought in 1892. • This structure was finished and used for Sokol activities. The building met the requirements of the gymnasts, members and officials of the organization.

  4. The Purpose of the Building • The building was used for different activities. • The main usage was as a physical training centre • In 1918 the military recruitment took place here. • Fancy dress parties Šibřinky were hold there annually.

  6. After The World War I the members were promised to get a new better building, which was supposed to meet changing standards and needs of gymnasts. The modern technical parametres were expected. • The construction of a new gymnasium has never been realised.

Sokol activities were forbidden during the Nazy occupation. • After the end of the Worl War II a plague of martyrized members of Sokol Třebíč was unveiled on the wall of the building. • In 1990 the plague was removed. The building was demolished. • The plague was unveiled again in Pasaž cultural centre in 2000.

  13. Conclusion • There is a gap site at the place of former Sokol gymnasium. • Sokol activities were reestablished after Velvet Revolution in 1989. • Sokol organisation is still active and uses town sports facilities for their activities.
