  2. Population Distribution The main population of India is around the coastal areas like oceans and rivers because. • The climax • More resources • Transport • Better conditions for crops • Arrogation system e.g. New Delhi is right along the Ganges river, better access to food and transport and good living conditions

  3. Population Distribution More populated areas of India is around the ocean or rivers because can get better resources. E.g. Mumbai is right on the coast -availability of water is good -climate is moderate -it is an urban area -job availability is very good -access to food Delhi Ganges River (12,918,240) Kolkata Ahmadabad (5,438,063) (3,959,432) Mumbai Bangalore (5,440,465) (13,834,386) Chennai (4,619,465)

  4. Population Diversity In India the population has grown much more within the last 100 years and will continue to grow, as shown in the graph below. Parents believe that in the rural areas the more children you have the better they can provide for you when they get old. e.g. People from Mumbai have more children because of higher chance of getting jobs and money to then look after you when they get older -Males outnumber the females-

  5. Population Diversity There are four major religions in India, • Hinduism - (over 1 billion Indians or 80.5%) • Buddhism - (105,000 people or 0.8%) • Jainism and Sikhism - (1.9%) • Islam - ( 13.4%) • People in Mumbai believe the more children you have the successful you become, that’s why there over 12 million Indians living there

  6. Population Change • India is the second most populated country in the world with 1.2 billion people • India’s population has rapidly grown from just over 350 million to 1 billion in the past 50 years. (three times as much) and is currently growing at 1.7%. India’s Total Population Growth YearTotal Population 1950 357,000,000 1960 443,000,000 1970 553,000,000 1980 684,000,000 1990 838,141,000 2000 1,004,000,000 2010 1,190,000,000 2020 1,365,000,000 2030 1,550,000,000 2040 1,690,000,000 2050 1,810,000,000

  7. Population Change What will happen if the population continues to grow? Less job opportunities, that means not enough income and less food for the family, but if people have smaller families the easier everything would be. The population increases due to lack of knowledge and resources, this usuallyhappens in rural area and not so much in Urban, India could introduce the one child law like china?

  8. Population Migration • Why do the Indians Migrate? • Education • Employment • Living standards • Climate • Politics • Society

  9. Population Migration Why does Rural – Urban Drift occur? People usually move from Rural to Urban area because of them being ambitious about the future, they look for a New society, Better education for their children and Employment, Basically an new start

  10. Population Sustainability • Can India support it’s population? India is not that sustainable The main issue with India's growing population is that there is not enough food and fresh waterto go around. Because there is just to many people not everyone can get what they need. India needs to decrease the amount of people having children.
