  2. 3x table tip Add the digits (e.g. 27 = 2 + 7 = 9) If the digits add up to 3, 6 or 9 they belong to the 3x table and 3 will divide into them exactly. Do you think that this trick could be used to see if 3 divides into any number? Have a go!

  3. If I know the 3x table, …………………… How will I find the answers to complete the 6x table?

  4. 4x table All numbers in the 4x table are even. This means they end with 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8. tip As you already know: Double 2 is 4 So when you multiply any number by 2 and then double it . It is the same as multiplying by 4 Try a few! Does it work?

  5. If I know the 4x table, …………………… What do I need to my answers to complete the 8x table?

  7. 9x table The numbers in the unit column are going down by one each time. The numbers in the tens column are going up by one each time Multiply the number by 10 then take-away the number multiplied by 1. tip 9 x 8 = 8 x10 - 8 x 1 = 80 – 8 = 72

  8. 0 9x table tip Bend the first finger over Count the fingers on each side of the bent finger 9 9 x 1 = 9

  9. 10x table 100 tip Numbers that are multiples of 10 end in ‘0’ When multiplying a whole number by 10 add a nought Do you think that this trick could be used to multiply all numbers by 10? Have a go!

  10. tip Sometimes reversing the sum makes it easier to remember. e.g. 2 x 9 = ? seems easier than 9 x 2 = ? 3 x 6 = ? seems easier than 6 x 3 = ? But are the answers the same?

  11. Reversing the sum Does 3 x 9 = 9 x 3 ?

  12. Reversing the sum Does 4 x 7 = 7 x 4 ???

  13. Reversing the sum Does 8 x 6 = 6 x 8 ???
