  1. EDU 535 Final Presentation Mentoring Assignment & Technology Observations Alison L. Halgerson

  2. Mentoring Assignment • Mentoring groups: • English Group (Consisted of rep from collaboration teams - Speech, Am. Lit/Comp, and Engl II) • 1st Meeting – Viewed the mentor wiki and my yearbook class wiki, Web 2.0 slide show and Jing lesson. Handed out the scavenger hunts. • 2nd Meeting – Group wanted to focus on Prezi. (Speech students then used Prezi for their travel speech.)

  3. Mentoring Assignment - continued • Group Two – M. Schuldt (photography teacher and asst. yearbook adviser) and K. Smith (Librarian) • Matt Schuldt – Mostly show and tell meetings (class wikis and Photo Peach). Photo I Wiki – Developed Photo I wiki and using Photo Peach with his five sections of Photo I and I. He reports that it has simplified his grading immensely. • Kerri Smith (shared scavenger hunts and introduced her to Voki site) Continues to do trainings as requested by building teachers.

Axtell Middle SchoolTechnology Observations • Observed nine different classes/student groups using technology during the four hour visit. • Highlights: • 6th grade art - Kid Pix/drawing pads to recreate the ‘Starry Night’ painting (SMART Board). • 7th Writing - Listening/reading activity and essay writing assignment (10 min.) using mobile lab laptops and WriteToLearn program.

  5. Axtell Observations - cont • More highlights: • 6th Music - Electric keyboards/headphones to practice “Love Somebody” sheet music. MAC – teacher assessed for mastery of lesson. • Immersion – System 44 and Imagine Learning to differentiate learning (PCs on one end of room). • German (qtr class) – Classroom set of iPods loaded with different textbooks. Scavenger hunt required students to use two of the books.

Axtell Observations - cont • More highlights: • 7th Art (qtr class) – Laptops and drawing pads to complete Corel Painter (tools) scavenger hunt. • 6th Science - Create a “Scientific Method Song” – all four stages (small groups recorded their song and would present them to others in class). • 6th Math – SMART notebook for warm-up lessons, mobile lab (Fraction Nation software), • FACS (qtr class) – Pairs worked on various units of study (PCs used, along with PowerPoint, Publisher)

  7. Washington H.S. Observations • Highlights: • MMD Class -Windows 7 Professional, Adobe Director 11.5 and Space Game Promo. • Photo I – CS3 Photoshop used to create a vintage, antique looking photo. • Newspaper – InDesign for layout of newspaper. Google docs used to write/edit stories. • Algebra II – SMART board and TI-Nspire Navigator Teacher software, TI-Nspire calculators (quadratic equations).
