  2. Description: The Rakes of Mallow is the third movement from Leroy Anderson’s Irish Suite. According to Anderson, the movement depicts the “carousing and rioting of the young bloods of the Mallow” (Arnold, 2012). What is a Rake?!?

  3. Background Information • Leroy Anderson (1908-1975) was an American composer, most widely known for his lighter works for band and orchestra. Two of his most popular works are Sleigh Ride and the Irish Suite (Anderson, 2001). • He arranged four of the movements, including The Rakes of Mallow,for band (Anderson, 1953). • Commissioned in 1947 by the Eire Society of Boston, Arthur Fiedler and Boston Pops orchestra premiered it that year (Anderson, 1953).
