  4. II Tim.2:2 “the things” I Cor.15:1-4; II Thess.1:7-9; Rom.6:3-4; Rom.6:17-18; Eph.4:1-6; 5:25-27; 5:19; etc. “For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church.” I Corinthians 4:17

  5. “faithful men” “men” - anthrōpos human beings whether male or female “faithful” – people upon whom the Lord, the truth, and the church can depend. They can be trusted! They are teachable! They are teachers!

  6. BALANCE Philippians 4:5 “Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.”

  7. ἐπιεικής • I Timothy 3:3“Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;” • Titus 3:2“To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, butgentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.”

  8. ἐπιεικής • James 3:17“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.” • I Peter 2:18“Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.”

  9. Maintaining BALANCE Philippians 4:5 Mature, Well-Balanced Attitude “It refers to restraint on the passions, general soberness of living, being free from all excesses.” (Barnes) “seemingly, suitable, equitable, fair, mild, gentle” (Thayer) “graciousness with strength & poise of character….opposite of stubbornness” (A. T. Robertson)

  10. Maintaining BALANCE • Philippians 4:5 • Appropriate, Not Overreact, Not Extreme Or Thrown Off Balance. • The Prevailing Responsibility?“Unto All Men”Poise & Patience In All Cases Why?“The Lord is at hand” Secured By Focus On Christ’s Presence & Promise, Not On Earthly Conditions!

  11. Philippians 1:9-11 “And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; (10) That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ. (11) Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.”

  12. Maintaining BALANCE Philippians 1:9-11 Pray For Maturity, Balance • Grow in Love • Grow in Knowledge • Grow in Judgment, Discernment: • “Selects, classifies, & applies” (Vincent, Word Studies in N.T.) • Proper sense of the relative value of things

  13. Maintaining BALANCE • Approve Things That Are Excellent, Distinguish Things That Differ, Have A Sense Of What Is Vital, Prioritize • See what things are relatively most important & put the emphasis in the right place. • Act In View Of “The Day Of Christ” (Reckon That Should/Would Make A Difference?)

  14. Ecclesiastes 7:15-18 “All things have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just man that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongethhis life in his wickedness. (16) Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself ?”

  15. (17) Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time? (18) It is good that thou shouldest take hold of this; yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all.”

  16. Maintaining BALANCE Ecclesiastes 7:15-18 Balance: Avoid Extreme Attitudes Vs. 15 Can’t Solve Every Question, Enigma, & Difficulty Vs. 16 To Claim To Be Capable Of Deciding All Such Matters? That’s Exaggerated Righteousness Vs. 17 Opposite Extreme: Use Enigmas As Excuse For Willful Sin Vs. 18 True Faith: Focus On Revealed Truth & Duty, Avoid Extremes

  17. Matthew 7:1-5 “Judge not, that ye be not judged. (2) For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. (3) And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?”

  18. (4) Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? (5) Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.”

  19. Matthew 7:13-15 “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (14) Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (15) Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
