  1. Life without a body? LO: I will consolidate what has been studied in the unit so far I will know about and evaluate the idea of disembodied existence Hmk: Revise for end of unit assessment on Life after death for next Monday (24th)

  2. Starter: Tarsia • In groups of 4 or 5 • Match the statements into the correct shapes

  3. Issues surrounding disembodied existence • Activate: Individual Mastery • Using pg 106-107 of blue textbooks • Individually you are going to produce a SUMMARY FILE focussing on some questions • You will then pair up, teach and share your answers. Which belief is necessary before we can accept the possibility of a disembodied existence after death? John Locke argued that the concept of a disembodied existence was coherent. What did he say? H. H. Price attempted to explain what our existence after death would be like. What did he say? How did Hick criticise Price? With regards to Near death experiences, what did Dr Ray Moody find out and what was the counterpoint given from Susan Blackmore? What two things did H. H. Price conclude about ESP’s (Extra Sensory Perception) and mediums (people claiming to be able to contact the dead)? Which famous case study has been used to support the belief in disembodied existence? Describe what happened.

  4. Demonstrate: Pair up, teach and share • Pair up with someone from the other group. • Explain what you found to your partner.

  5. Feedback • We will take a moment to give feedback to out partners on how they did in the last activity. Use the following questions to help give them a grading out of 5. • Did you feel that they were secure in their knowledge? • Did they mention key scholars? • Is there anything that they could have improved on? E.g. Better summary notes? 5 = Great job. Thorough with good detail, explained clearly. Accurately mentioned scholars. Competent teacher. 3-4 = Did ok. Detailed with scholars but could have been more secure, or more clear at explaining the ideas. 1-2 = Not detailed enough. More preparation needed to be more secure in their knowledge.

  6. The Debate Game ‘Near death experiences, and the activities of mediums is good evidence for the existence of something other than our bodies.’ http://www.teachit.co.uk/custom_content/timer/timer.html RULES: 1.You will be scored on preparation, contribution, and quick thinking. Use page 104-105 of textbooks to help 2. Only one person may speak at one time. 3. Additional points may be awarded where the views of scholars from today’s lesson, or previous lessons are included. • 1 Minute on what you think of the title, and why you are correct. (you will be given a view) • 30 seconds on why others are wrong. • Ask a question to the other group. (they will have ten seconds to nominate a person and then respond) • You will then have 1 minute to prepare your closing statement.
