Wir sind VISUM, die Studenteninitiative für unsere Austauschstudenten. Ihr habt das Austauschprogramm mit der Uni Mannheim gewählt, um ein erstklassiges Studienangebot zu nutzen, aber ihr seid sicherlich auch hier, um die Region und Deutschland kennen zu lernen und dabei Spaß zu haben… … und da seid ihr bei VISUM genau richtig !!! Wahrscheinlich habt ihr schon von unserem VISUM Buddy Program gehört und auch einen Buddy bekommen. Mit dem VPN-Client: • Hierfür müsst ihr an der Universität eingeschrieben sein, weil ihr Euer Uni-Login benötigt.  TIPP: Lasst euch den VPN-Client in der Zentralbibliothek im Schloss installieren. 2. With the VPN-Client: • In order to use the VPN-Client you have to be enrolled at the university because you need the uni-login.  TIP: Ask for the VPN-Client at the central library in the Schloss (they can also install the program for you). 2. With a proxy server: • In Windows, go to: Control Panel – Internet Options – Connections – LAN Settings: click on ´Automatically detect settings´, click on ´Use a proxy server for your LAN´ and type in: for Address: “www-cache.uni-mannheim.de“, for Port: „3128“. • Student Bank Account - Money money money...: • Different banks offer student bank accounts including an EC-Card (electronic cash card) and online-banking without charging fees. • We recommend the Deutsche Bank in O7 (Planken) as the staff is friendly and previous exchange students had the least problems when opening an account there. 6

7. 7 • Denkt daran, folgende Unterlagen zur Kontoeröffnung mitzubringen: Studentenausweis (ecUM), Reisepass und Mietvertrag. Mit der EC-Karte könnt ihr an Automaten Geld abheben und euren Kontostand abfragen und ausdrucken. Da die Deutsche Bank zur „Cash Group“ gehört, könnt ihr bei allen folgenden Banken auch kostenlos Geld abheben: Dresdner Bank, Commerzbank, Postbank und Hypo Vereinsbank.  Über VISUM bekommt ihr einen Termin zur Kontoeröffnung bei der Deutschen Bank. Fragt uns am besten an den ersten Tagen nach eurer Ankunft! • Hinweis: Bitte vergesst nicht, euer Konto am Ende eures Aufenthaltes in Mannheim wieder zu schließen. • Uniparties – party people: • Jeden Donnerstag finden im Schneckenhof oder in der Mensa Uniparties statt, die von den verschiedenen Fachschaften organisiert werden. Karten gibt es meist im Vorverkauf (VVK) und an der Abendkasse (AK). VVK ist meistens montags und dienstags von 12-14 Uhr in der Mensa. Normalerweise können auf www.campusclick.de oder www.schneckenhof.de ab Freitag bereits Karten reserviert werden. Eine Karte kostet meist 4 €. TIPP: Wir empfehlen euch, die Karten im VVK zu kaufen, insbesondere für die Norweger-Party und BWLer-Party! • Mobiltelefone – connected people: • Ihr könnt einen Vetrag abschließen oder eine Prepaid-Karte kaufen. Verträge gehen meistens über 24 Monate, daher empfehlen wir Prepaid-Karten: Karte kaufen, Guthaben aufladen und telefonieren! • Prepaid-Karte ohne Handy (= nur Sim-Karte): ca. 20 € incl. 5 € Guthaben. • Prepaid-Karte mit Handy (= Prepaid-Paket = Handy + SIM-Karte): ca. 40 €. • Beides bekommt ihr z.B. bei Saturn (in N7, 5/6) oder direkt in den Shops der Mobilfunkanbieter. • Do not forget to bring your student ID Card (ecUM), passport, and apartment rental contract with you! • You can use the EC-Card to withdraw money at ATMs and to check and print your account balance. As the Deutsche Bank is a member of the “Cash Group” you can also withdraw money without paying fees at ATMs from the following banks: Dresdner Bank, Commerzbank, Postbank and Hypo Vereinsbank.  VISUM can make an appointment with the Deutsche Bank for you to open your bank account. Ask us on one of your first days after your arrival! • Note: Please don´t forget to close your bank account at the end of your stay in Mannheim. • Uniparties – party people: • Every Thursday there is a party in the “Schneckenhof” or in the “Mensa” organized by different faculties. You can buy tickets in advance (VVK) or pay at the entry (AK). VVK is mostly on Monday and Tuesday 12 a.m.- • 2 p.m. in the mensa. Usually, you can reserve tickets on www.campusclick.de and www.schneckenhof.de already on Friday. A ticket costs usually 4 €.  TIP: We recommend you to buy a ticket in advance, especially for the Norwegian party and the BWL-party! • Mobiltelefone – connected people: • You can either sign a contract or buy a „Prepaid“-card (i.e. a stored value card). Contracts are usually for 24 months – that is why we recommend you to buy a Prepaid-card: buy the card, store some value on it and make your calls! • Prepaid cards without a mobile phone (SIM-card only): around 20 € incl. 5 € calling credit. • Prepaid card with mobile phone (= Prepaid-package = mobile phone + SIM-card): around 40€. • You can buy both of them in an electric shop like Saturn (N7, 5/6) or in shops of the mobile phone providers. 7
