Key Questions • How do we design a College and Career Academy in a small rural district (single high school) that provides students the opportunity to choose an academy based on interest and future plans? • Which could be replicated as a model for other small districts? • How do we create an autonomous industry board of directors within the current charter school system school governance team model? Key Points • MCHS will operate as a Wall to Wall Academy, meaning all students will be engaged with Academies - think of it as having Majors and Minors • Advanced level academics are available through Honors, Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, and International Baccalaureate courses and are applicable to all Academies • College and Career Academies are for ALL students - no matter their post-secondary plans. It’s not just for students who aren’t going to college or need to learn a trade! • Business, Industry, and Community support is critical to our success as students must gain “real world” experiences both in and out of the classroom. Comparison of SGT and CCA BOD Responsibilities SGT • Serve as a liaison between the school and the community • Encourage participation within the school community • Work to improve student and school performance • Provide overview and recommendations in the following areas: • Communication and Parent Involvement • Budgets • Resource Allocation • School Improvements • Personnel Decisions • Evaluation of School-related Measures CCA BOD • Provide leadership, governance and oversight in the following areas: • Advisor to CEO/Principal • Approve budgets, audits and material business decisions • Enhance school’s public standing • Ensure legal and ethical integrity, accountability • Contribute to annual performance evaluation of CEO • Secure and build partnerships with Business and Industry • Promote economic development through CCA Programs • Provide input on programming • Start and maintain a 501(c)(3)
