  2. Why do we go? Explore and Discover Children: • Develop self awareness and social skills. • Increase personal confidence through successfully meeting new challenges. • Develop personal responsibility. • Develop cooperation, trust and support in a team. • Experience awe and wonder at the natural world, and take time to reflect on this. • Understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

  4. Groups • Activity groups – mixed group of 12 • Dormitories – friendship groups (various sized dorms) • Dining – 3 dining areas

  5. Activities • The activities are weather dependent but the Derwent Hill staff have an array of different activities we can do in adverse weather. • Mountain walk • Gorge walking • Mine visit • High ropes/Low ropes • Canoeing • Orienteering • Big Swing ( it has another name!)

  6. At the top of the mountain. Ready to go in the mine.

  7. Canoeing First task get the canoe in the water. • Second task paddle together.

  8. Hot Chocolate on One Tree Island.

  9. What did we find in the woods? The weather was sunny and bright and there was even snow!

  10. Science -What happens when you go down an icy slide? Why?

  13. The Night Line! Can you give instructions that are helpful?

  14. The Low Ropes Course It takes Team Work to do the High Ropes course.

  15. Down you go! • At the top of the Death Swing!

  16. I will send out personal detail and medical letters out in October and have a meeting with children again before we go. • There will be a link to this Power point on the school website. • Please check out Derwent Hill’s own website www.derwenthill.co.uk

  17. CLOTHING • All clothing needs to be labelled, it can get lost in the drying room ( They forget they own it) • Black bag for dirty/muddy clothes • PROPERTY – children are responsible for their own things. • Please do not send any valuables including eg DS or phones. ( no internet connections) • Music players – ipod, mp3 ...

  18. Medical Issues • All medicine must be labelled and handed into staff before we go. • Before we go I will send out a medicine form to be brought in on the day we leave, with the medication. • Travel sickness – please inform staff if your child has taken a tablet and hand in one for the return journey.

  19. Money • £5 Pocket money in purse or wallet. (Change is best) • There is little to buy except sweets and a pool table turns.
