  3. Definition • Ethics is a continuous studying our code of moral principles and values that guides our choices and conduct and determines the purpose and course of our lives and how we will be viewed and the institutions we help to shape

  4. SO, WHERE ARE WE AT? There is a choice you have to make, In everything you do. And you must always keep in mind, The choice you make, makes you. Three things need to work together 1. Discernment (choices) 2. Direction 3. Action

  5. NACo STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES • It is essential that the conduct of public officials and employees shall hold the respect and confidence of the people. Public officials must, therefore, avoid conduct that is in violation of the public trust or that creates a justifiableimpression among the members of the public that such trust is being violated and shows lack of responsibility

  6. CONDUCT SHOULD • 1. Show public trust and confidence • 2. Maintain image that passes public scrutiny • 3. Make decisions that produce outcome at best cost without sacrificing quality or fiscal responsibility • 4. Comply with ALL laws and regulations applicable to county officials. Impartially to everyone

  7. CONDUCT SHOULD NOT • 1 . Engage in outside interests not compatible with impartial and objective performance of duties • 2. Impartial attempts to influence other officials for your own benefit • 3. Accept anything of value that may influence an act for your own benefit

  8. The Challenge Today Is One Of Character and Leadership • We are elected to handle the affairs of our office for the People who elected us. We know that during this time problems will arise that we have been elected to handle. That is just the way it is. What counts is how we act during the situation. That is what the people will see, our actions our responses to the situation. We need to do the right thing.
