What is “extended response”? • Extended = LOOOOONG • Should be set up like an ESSAY (Intro, Body Paragraphs, Conclusion) • FULLY answer EACH part of the question • Demonstrate CORRECT use of written English • Shows thinking on the topic (beyond the text) • Uses text based details to support the answer Scholars will utilize test questions to create relevant and meaningful planning pages for extended response questions

So, What does it look like? • Let’s look at a sample question: • Think about the difficulties faced by gold miners in “Gold Fever” and “A Gold Miner’s Tale.”  • Write an essay in which you discuss the hardships of life as a gold miner or gold “rusher.”  • Use details from both the article and the poem to support your answer.In your essay, be sure to• discuss the hardships of life as a gold miner or gold “rusher”• include details from both the article and the poem Scholars will utilize test questions to create relevant and meaningful planning pages for extended response questions
