Deficiency Needs come first • Learning is much less likely to take place if deficiency needs are not met. • Growth needs only come after deficiency needs are met • Deficiency needs include – affiliation with others, acceptance, approval, achievement, competence, valued by others, friendship, respect of others, respect by others

Bring on Standards 4 & 5 Standard 4: The physically literate individual exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others Standard 5: The physically literate individual recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction

  5. 10 x 10 • First 10 days are critical • Spend 10 minutes for 10 days specifically working on standards 4 & 5 • Invest now, reap the rewards throughout the semester/ school year • But how….

  9. Behind the Scenes • Google form on day 1 (or paper version) of student data • 2 truths and a lie format • Use data collected for “Mystery person” questions throughout semester **check to make sure this is OK with the student first

  10. After the first 10 days.. What do I do now? • Designate 1 day/time per week to spend a few minutes revisiting these ideas. • Survivor-style Challenges • R.A.O.K of the day or week • Celebration board/ chart – student driven • Incorporate standard 4 assessments into all units/ activities. Make it the norm.

  11. Those hard to reach students • 2 x 10: spend 2 minutes a day for 10 days engaging with them • Use data collected at the start of the year to help break the ice
