  1. The Wise and the Fool Matthew 25:1-13

  2. Harold Camping • “We had all of our dates correct,” Camping insisted, clarifying that he now understands that Christ’s May 21 arrival was “a spiritual coming” ushering in the last five months before the final judgment and destruction.

  3. Harold Camping • “It won’t be spiritual on October 21st,” Camping said, adding, “the world is going to be destroyed all together, but it will be very quick.”

  4. Failed Predictions: “The Sky Is Falling!” • 90 C.E. - St. Clement • 2nd Century – Montanist Movement • May 1000 A.D. • 1669 A.D. – Old Believers, Russia • 1689 A.D. – Benjamin Keach, Bapt. • 1736 A.D.– William Whitson, Theologian • 1792 A.D. - Shakers

  5. Failed Predictions: “The Sky Is Falling!” • 1794 A.D. – Charles Wesley, Wesleyan • 1830 A.D. Margret McDonald • 1914, 1915, 1918, 1920, 1925, 1941, 1975, 1994, etc. – Jehovah’s Witnesses • 1919 A.D. – Albert Porta, Meteorologist • Etc., etc., etc…

  6. When will Christ return? • "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. (Mark 13:32 NKJV)

  7. Eastern Wedding Ceremonies • “The Oriental wedding began with a feast in the house of the bride's father. After this the bridegroom led the bride to his own home, and it was the duty of his servants and household (of whom the ten virgins in this case were part) to honor him and the bride with an enthusiastic welcome.” - McGarvey& Pendleton, 1914

  8. Eastern Wedding Ceremonies • “The feast in the bridegroom's house was considered the most important part of the marriage, and certainly for those of the lord's own household it was the only feast. To be shut out from it was to be deprived of all participation in the marriage joy…” - McGarvey& Pendleton, 1914

  9. The Meaning of the Parable • "Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. "But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. "Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. "Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? "Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing. (Matthew 24:42-46)

  10. The Meaning of the Parable • "Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming. (Matthew 25:13)

  11. Doubting the Vengeance of the Lord to Come • knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation." (2 Peter 3:3-4)

  12. Our Parable is Descriptive of “the Kingdom of Heaven” • "Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. (Matthew 25:1)

  13. I’ll Do It Tomorrow Mentality • “whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” (James 4:14)

  14. No Such Things As Secret Sin • You have set our iniquities before You, Our secret sins in the light of Your countenance. (Psalms 90:8 NKJV) • (Num. 32:23) “…be sure your sin will find you out.”

  15. Do Not Be Foolish • “For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance…

  16. Do Not Be Foolish • But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; (2 Peter 3:5-14)

  17. You Need Not Face Sin Alone • Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2)
