  1. Walking Rates How long does it take you to walk 10 meters? Guess, then proceed to next slide…

  2. You can measure your walking rate by marking off 10 meters in an open space. You could have someone time you in seconds while you walk the 10 meters . The information may be recorded as a ratio : Meters Seconds “Meters per second” Let’s suppose you walk 10 meters in 4 seconds. What is your walking rate?

  3. Did you remember to use UNIT RATE to find your walking rate? Remember…unit rate is how many per one. With walking rates, we usually look at how many meters per second. This person may be walking at a faster rate, perhaps 3 meters per second. This gentleman may walk at a slower pace, perhaps 1.5 meters per second.

  4. Using a walking rate of 10 meters in 4 seconds….. Did you come up with a rate of 2.5 meters per second? Answer the following questions on a sheet of paper. This will be your ticket “in the door” and will count as a homework grade. Name Date

  5. Be prepared to show me this assignment as you enter class tomorrow. If you are able to correctly answer these questions, great…. You will continue to work with walking rates in class. Maybe you were able to answer only some of the questions… no worries…. Show me what you did understand and we will go from there. Forgot to do your homework or did not know what to do, meet me at table 1 and we’ll look at it together.

  6. Assume you walk at a constant rate of 4 meters per second… How long will it take you to walk 500 meters? How far could you walk in 30 seconds? How far could you walk in 10 minutes? How far could you walk in 1 hour? Write an equation that represents the distance d in meters that you can walk in t seconds if you maintain this pace. Show your work for each problem. Hint…. Start with a ratio!
