They have been asked to stick it in their homework diary.

  12. What can I write in my Reading Journal? Your journal could include some of the following ideas: • Write a description of the main character – their appearance, the way they dress, the way they talk and their personality; you could even draw a picture of your impression. • Choose a particularly descriptive passage and make a list of examples of vivid imagery e.g. similes, metaphors, noun phrases etc. • List the words and phrases used to create atmosphere. • Write what a character might be feeling at any stage in the story. • Keep a record of your predictions about what might happen in the next chapter or the rest of the novel • Write down words that you do not understand and look them up in a dictionary. Record their definitions in your journal. • Write about your favourite part and why you like it. • Choose a descriptive word from the text, write it down, and, using a thesaurus, make a list of five synonyms and antonyms for that word. • Write some advice to a character in trouble. • Explain whether you would recommend the book and why.
