Helps to provide an informed choice about post 16/18 opportunities Helps to develop greater self confidence and maturity Provides the opportunity to plan and achieve individual targets Provides the opportunity to develop and demonstrate employable skills Provides an opportunity for students following vocational courses to investigate real situations and gather evidence for course work Gives an opportunity to develop an understanding of a range of issues which relate to National Curriculum Citizenship and PSHE Health and Safety in the Work Force Newent Community School and Sixth Form Centre Striving for Excellence

  12. What is “Good” Progress? Minimum Expected Grade (MEG) at Key Stage 4 Minimum Expected Progress is the MEG It is an externally set estimate based on Key Stage 2 scores We have set targets already with Year 10 where they have looked at their MEGs They have been encouraged to be realistically aspirational in setting targets in excess of this estimate Newent Community School and Sixth Form Centre Striving for Excellence

  19. What are they? • Exams which take place in the classroom under exam conditions – fixed durations and support • Happen at different times throughout the two year course – starting Term 1 Y10 • Are marked by class teachers and externally moderated • Are AS IMPORTANT as final exams

  20. Depends on subject: • Essays • Projects • Exam-style questions • Case studies • Practical exams

  21. Know what is coming up and when • Plan and prioritise in advance • Review and revise as if an external exam – scheduling workload • Bringing the correct materials and preparation work

  27. How does support work? Additional needs are highlighted on electronic register and class lists Most students at SA+ and all students with Statements receive in-class support from TA staff a passport of need is sent to staff to illustrate detail. Newent Community School and Sixth Form Centre Striving for Excellence

  28. How does support work? The majority of support for SEND is delivered by the class teacher some students require additional support and may be dis-applied from a subject to receive small group or 1:1 interventions. Referrals for this support come via staff, students, outside agencies, in-school assessment and parents. Resources are targeted to need.
