  3. -Information page Summary This story was written by EdwidgeDanticat in October , 1993. She is Haitian and she was living in Brooklyn, New York when she wrote this book. This story is about a boy in this case the narrator that had to leave his country, his girlfriend and his family to escape in a boat to Miami, Florida because, he is wanted by the Haitian government . While he is in the boat he is writing letters to his girlfriend who he is so in love and his girlfriend writing to him but, they cannot mail these letters. His girlfriend is passing throw may things in Haiti and is suffering because his love.

  4. - Setting Analysis • This story take place in Haiti and in a boat. • I think this author chose this setting because she wanted to express her experience as a Haitian . • This story relate to the work as a whole because, without these peoples and all those problems in Haiti would not be a story.

  5. -Character Analysis part 1 Who are the primary characters? The primary characters are the boy and the girl. • Who are the secondary characters? The secondary character are Celianne, Madame Roger, Father and Mother.

  6. -Character analysis part2 • Choose 1 character and explain how they changed/grew throughout the story. One important character that grew and changed throughout the story was Celianne because, she was raped by 13 men then she got pregnant but, she didn’t lose the hope of change her life to a better one by having her baby and trying to get a better life in other country even when she treated to do that in a bad way

  7. -Theme • I think the theme of this story is Social injustice because, the government do many injustice against the country. How the narrators tell us no just the government do social injustice, the people in their own country do injustice too like when Madame Roger went to find her son’s body and the army only give her the head and she waked throw all the Haitian capital with the head and some peoples making fun of it. Also because the raped that the army did with Celianne that marked her for the rest of her life.

  8. -Opinion • In my opinion It was a interested and sad story because I learned a lots of things that I didn’t know that happen in Haiti even when story is only a fiction but I know that many of this things happen in Haiti. Also tell us how much we could be in love with someone even if you have to leave that person. This story was a little weird because, it never tell us the end or what happened then with the characters .
