  1. Spark Plug Testing Today Magneto Output

  2. What is the Magneto?

  3. Armature Magneto

  4. What does the Magneto DO? Converts the electricity collected from the armature to a high voltage charge

  5. That high voltage charge is then transferred to the spark plug via the spark plug lead

  6. If the Magneto is working, is a bad spark possible?

  7. What are some causes of a BAD SPARK? Incorrect gap Carbon buildup Insulation break down Cracked lines

  8. Too Narrow of a Gap: Not enough spark to ignite the AFM = slow rate of burn = BAD at high RPMs

  9. Too Wide of a Gap: Spark may not be strong enough to jump gap = No ignition of AFM

  10. Carbon Buildup on terminal resulting from unburned AFM Carbon conducts electricity, therefore carbon could redirect charge away from gap

  11. Deterioration of insulation & Cracked Lead Electricity takes the path of least resistance and will be attracted to any cracks or deterioration

  12. If the Magneto is NOT working, is a good spark possible?

  13. What does the Magneto DO? Converts the electricity collected from the armature to an high voltage charge

  14. If it Does Not Convert the electricity collected to a high voltage charge

  15. Then no voltage gets transferred to the spark plug

  16. What happens if the spark plug is not tightened enough into the head? Lose Compression, No (or) Poor ignition, Possible Arc-ing

  17. If there is a good spark OUTSIDE the cylinder, Does that guarantee that it will be a good spark under compression? No – it will take more voltage to spark under pressure than at ambient pressure

  18. Lab Time
