Who is Ellen Degeneres? • Stand up comedian, television host and actress • Wanted to be a veterinarian, gave up because wasn’t book smart • As career, waited tables, sold vacuum cleaners, painted houses, and a bartender • Received offers to do stand up comedy • Came out as gay, became an advocate of LGBT rights • Started performing at age 23, at a local coffeehouse

  3. What has she accomplished? • Has been the host of her own talk show The Ellen Degeneres Show • Won 13 Emmys and other awards for her work and charitable efforts • Became the first female Canadian to be invited to The Tonight Show • Huge supporter of numerous charities

Why she is a positive leader • She came out and told everyone the truth about herself on her own TV show • With being honest she won over her everyone • Teaches people to be themselves and be comfortable in their own skin • Supports many organizations, won many awards for charitable efforts • Didn’t hide anything about herself, despite the hate she might get • She’s proud of who she is
