Packaging Dairy Products means placing a commodity into a protective wrapper or container for transport and storage for extended life • The packaging of any dairy product should deliver consumer expectations of natural dairy taste and freshness, and should have a unique natural appeal and should extended shelf life. • All Dairy packaging requires special care and attention and packed with special kind of material. • Types of Dairy Products: Milk, Fermented Milk, Milk Powder, Whey Based Drinks, Curds and Yoghurt, Cheese, Cottage Cheese, Cream, Ice cream, Butter, etc. • Types of Dairy Packaging: Pouch/Sachet, Carton, Packet, Barrel, Cup, Cans, Bottles, and Tubes. • Packaging Materials for milk and dairy products : Paper and paper based products, Glass, Tin Plate, Aluminum Foil, Timber, Plastics, Low polymers, High polymers, and Laminates. • Most of the dairy product packaging is done in the paper based packing material. • The paper can be wax coated paper, plastic coated paper, grease proof paper, box boards and other kind of dairy product packing paper.

  3. Unsuitable packaging will substantially shorten the shelf life of the product. Dairy packaging suppliers consider many factors like protecting the flavors and textures throughout display and distribution of dairy products. Weight and shape of the container and effect on filling and sealing speeds. The package should safeguard the product against contamination, or loss and damage or degradation due to microbial action, exposure to heat, light, moisture, and oxygen, accidental spillage, evaporation, pilferage etc. The package should perform at least three functions of containing, protecting and merchandising. Factors affecting the contents viz. temperature, relative humidity, pH, and the reaction mechanism involved.
