Key Terms • Monsoon-Seasonal winds in the Indian Ocean caused by the differences in temperature between the rapidly heating and cooling landmasses of Africa and Asia and the slowly changing ocean waters • Vedas-Early Indian sacred knowledge long preserved and communicated orally by Brahmin priests and eventually written down. Our main source of information about the Vedic period along with Rig Veda. • Buddha-Indian prince named Siddhartha Gautama, who renounced his wealth and social position. After becoming "enlightened" he enunciated the principles of Buddhism. • Mahayana Buddhism-Branchof Buddhism followed in China, Japan, and Central Asia. Focuses on reverence for Buddha. • Theravada Buddhism-Branch of Buddhism followed in Sri Lanka and much of Southeast Asia. It downplays the importance of gods and emphasizes austerity and the individual's search for enlightenment.

The Vedic age • The Vedic period (or Vedic age) was a period in history during which the Vedas, the oldest scriptures of Hinduism, were composed. • After the Indus valley civilization collapsed there was no real central authority to direct arrogation efforts. This allowed settlers to chop down trees faster for wood and were then able to clear plots of lands for plants and crops.

Religion • They believed in the Vedic religion which was belief in different gods which explain every thing that happens around them for example the sun rise they have a god for that, for the sky they have a god for that, for clouds moving they have a god for that • Later these idea were challenged by three religions were rising: Jainism and Buddhism, and later Hinduism

  8. Buddhism • The Four Noble Truths:(1) Life is suffering(2)suffering arises from desire(3)the solution to suffering lies in curbing desire(4)desire can be curbed if a person follows the ‘’eight fold path’’. • Its also a religion that discourages violence and use of force.

  9. Jainism • Indian religion that prescribes a path of non-violence towards all living beings. Its philosophy and practice emphasize the necessity of self-effort to move the soul towards divine consciousness and liberation. Any soul that has conquered its own inner enemies and achieved the state of supreme being is called a jina ("conqueror" or "victor"). The ultimate status of these perfect souls is called siddha

  10. Hinduism • Hinduism is the predominant religion of the Indian subcontinent, and one of its indigenous religions.

Mauryan Empire • The Mauryan empire was the first centralized empire in India . • It was started by Chandragupta maurya who was part of the vaisha or shundra class, He gained control of the kingdom of Magadha ad turned it into the mauryan empire. • Had wealth due to agriculture, iron mines, and well located trade routes.

Southeast Asia South east Asia consists of three geographical zones: the Indochina mainland, the The Malay peninsula, and thousand of islands that extend into the pacific ocean Has enhanced natural resources. Able to grow plenty of crops and they were able To trade some of those crops for foreign goods
