  1. Advancements and plansfor the 60GHz Source project François Debray, Christophe Trophime Thierry Lamy, Mélanie Marie-Jeanne, Louis Latrasse Vladimir Zorin, Ivan Isotov, Vadimskalyga

  2. Advancements and plans for the 60GHz Source project I– I+, 15000 A Plasma chamber I– I+, 15000 A Water cooling Short summary : what has been performed since Euro-nu begining Radia-Mathematica 2.1T Magnetic field lines H3 H4 H1 H2 600 mm 480 mm 620 mm 1000 mm Magnetic simulations, experimental validation Mechanical design optimization of the magnetic structure prototype Thierry Lamy– LPSC, WP4 meeting at LNL, 7th February 2012

  3. Advancements and plans for the 60GHz Source project Short summary : what has been performed since Euro-nu begining Prototype axis Iso-B in the prototype at 15000 A Magnetic field structure prototype construction and installation on the M5 LNCMI site Magnetic field measurements at 15000 A Thierry Lamy– LPSC, WP4 meeting at LNL, 7th February 2012 Magnetic field along 3 axis at 15000 A

  4. Advancements and plans for the 60GHz Source project Short summary : what has been performed since Euro-nu begining • Experimental preglow studies in a ‘Min B’ source (PHOENIX V2) at 18 and 28 GHz • Detailed internal parts of the 60 GHz source prototype Experimental results have to be evaluated in the CUSP configuration A 60 kV DC breaker copy under construction A 28 GHz HF window to be ordered at GYCOM Thierry Lamy– LPSC, WP4 meeting at LNL, 7th February 2012

  5. Advancements and plans for the 60GHz Source project Short summary : what has been performed since Euro-nu begining • High intensity beam line design and construction • We will use another magnet back from ISOLDE and a lighter beam line Beam line under construction at LPSC unfortunately presently not possible at LNCMI due to the low resistance of the concrete slab... To be installed on the M3 site... last experiments on the M5 one Former cooling circuit has to be reinstalled on the new site

  6. 60 GHz ion source prototype program February: Water pipes installation March : LPSC 28 GHz gyrotron disassembly Reassembly on M3 site Tests Ion source prototype setup April: Beam line construction at LNCMI 60 GHz gyrotron delivery at LNCMI May: First ion beams at 28 GHz Prototype current increase up to 30000 A Possibly first 60 GHz experiments Magnetic spectrometer Low Pressure water cooling Gyrotron high voltage M3 site HP water cooling Waveguide 28 GHz gyrotron 28 GHz remote control building constraints Extremely bad news for CNRS funding (all Ion Source Service activities: 40 k€), last year 120 k€... However, what we may expect by the end of May : first results of pulsed beams at 28 Ghz (possibly 60 GHz) 2012 : Experimental programme at LNCMI (20 days accepted) Scheduled in May on the M3 site Thierry Lamy– LPSC, WP4 meeting at LNL, 7th February 2012

  7. 60 GHz gyrotron to be delivered by apriland to be installed at LNCMI ... • Funded through 2010-2012 ISTC project #3965 (225 k€ CNRS + 490 k€ EU) 4 meters Microwave line stands to be built at LPSC • 2006: ANR ECR60 for gyrotron and prototypes constructionsunfortunately not accepted • 2010: CePITEquipex project submitted by François Debray (LNCMI - LPSC) dedicated to dense plasmas • intense ion beams, CW intense THz radiationunfortunately not accepted • 2011: COLOSSECRISEquipex project submitted by Thierry Lamy (LPSC, GANIL, LNCMI, IPNL) • allowing a ‘safe’ context for the future high frequency ECRIS R&D ... unfortunately not accepted
