  3. My husband and I got married last year! • My husband is also a teacher! • He teaches at Lanier Middle School • He teaches 6th grade math

A little bit about Ms. Evans… Background Hobbies • I grew up in Wisconsin Rapids, WI • I attended University of Wisconsin-La Crosse • I earned a degree in elementary/middle education (grades 1-9) and a minor in math education  • I’m also certified in high school math • I played basketball, volleyball, and track in high school • Running • Reading • Hiking

  5. I will be teaching: Science

  6. Promotion Requirements • 6thgrade math and language arts must be passed both semesters (70% or higher) for promotion to 7th grade. The semester grade is an average of the two previous nine weeks’ grades. If one semester is passed but not the other, summer school will be required for promotion.

  7. General Supplies • Colored pencils and Markers (No Sharpies allowed) • Flash drive • Glue sticks • Scissors • Pencils • Pens • Loose leaf notebook paper • 2 packs of subject dividers • 3 half inch or 3 one inch binders • Composition book

  8. Homeroom Supplies • One ream (500 sheets) of white copy paper • Two large boxes of tissues • One roll of paper towels • One bottle of hand sanitizer • One box of dry erase markers • One box of Band-aides • One package 3 X 5 index cards • One pack construction paper • Clear cellophane tape

  9. Need Help? • Tutoring will be held on Tuesdays & Wednesdays Mornings @ 8:15. • If you need help on other days, just let me know  • Students will be receiving a pass this week that will get taped in their agenda.

  10. Retests/Retakes • Students may retake two tests every semester in any subject as long as: • All HW and CW is complete for that unit • Attend reteach before school

Semester 1 Units • Unit 1: Rocks and Minerals (approximately 4 weeks) • Unit 2: Paleontology (approximately 2 weeks) • Unit 3: Ecology (approximately 3 weeks) • Unit 4: Plate Tectonics (approximately 4 weeks) • Unit 5: Earthquakes and Volcanoes (Approximately 2 Weeks) • Unit 6: Weathering, Erosion, Deposition, and Soil (approximately 3 weeks) • End of semester: Review and Interim

  13. Grading Policy A: 90 and above B: 80 – 89 C: 74 – 79 D: 70 – 73 U: 69 or below • Summative Assessments 50% • Formative Assessments 35% • Homework 5% • Final Exam (Dec./May) 10%

  14. Textbook Textbook Holt Earth Science Online Textbook Website You may access the online textbook through the student portal. Students WILL NOT be issued a science textbook. A class set of textbooks will be provided

Team 21 • Collaboration-Labs/projects with team input, each individual will always have their own score • Creative Thinking- Open ended questions, inquiry/discovery before lesson, thinking “outside the box,” understanding why vs memorizing • Integrating subjects-some projects will include more than 1 subject
