Understanding Utility Partnerships • Goal: How to develop a Win-Win Partnership with your Utility Companies. • What are Utility Companies looking for in a Partnership with a Community Action Agency (CAA)? • What does the Utility Company have to offer a CAA? • What does the CAA need from the Utility Company? • What skills & expertise can a CAA bring to the Utility? • What are YOU doing to make partnerships happen?

  3. Understanding Utility Partnerships • Most Utilities would like: • To reduce energy demand through wise energy use. • To maximize energy dollars. • Opportunities to leverage dollars. • Direct contact educational opportunities with customers. • To help the utility’s most vulnerable populations.

Understanding Utility Partnerships • Utilities could offer: • Fuel assistance funding. • Most have customer donation funds. • Energy Efficiency programs. • Public Benefit programs or Conservation Fee funds. • Customer Education. • Staff trained in energy conservation presentations, energy auditors. • Data Sharing with customer approval. • Consumption of high energy users, arrearage customers, high energy burden customers.

  5. Understanding Utility Partnerships • CAAs would like: • Better collaboration. • Exchange of information. • Dialogue with utilities. • Working together to leverage funding. • Donations of energy saving products. • Better understanding and use of technologies available from each side.

  6. Understanding Utility Partnerships • CAAs can offer: • Existing customer network. • In-Home expertise. • Energy Conservation Technology and experienced Weatherization staff. • Energy Education. • Leveraging.

Understanding Utility Partnerships • Opportunities for partnerships: • Education, fuel assistance, weatherization & Energy Conservation Programs. • PG&E and “Energy Partners” • Case management programs: • OLHSA and DTE Energy (Energy Make Over) • Data Exchange • Joint Community Events • Leveraging of funds: LIHEAP & Weatherization plus Utility Conservation and Education. • State of Alabama Municipal Utility Association and State Weatherization • Sharing of Skills: • Louisiana CAA Association – Energy Audits & Assessments with WAP personnel.
