  2. Reminder: One Way to Write a Linear Equation is Slope-Intercept Form y = mx + b m = slope b= y-intercept

  3. y-intercept: point where line crosses (intercepts) the y-axis (x = 0) x-intercept: point where line crosses the x-axis (y=0)

  4. Example: Write the equation of the given line.

  5. Example: Given a line passes through the points (5,3) and (2, -6), write the equation of the line.

  6. Ex.1) Find the equation of the line ║ to the line y = 5x – 2 that passes through the point (-3, 1).

  7. Ex.2) Find the equation of the line ┴ to the line y = 5x – 2 that passes through the same point (-3, 1).

  8. Standard Form: Another way to write a linear equation: ax + by = c (a, b and c represent numbers)

  9. Ex.) Rewrite the equation in standard form.

  10. Ex: Write the equation in standard form.

  11. Ex: Graph the equation.

  12. Ex: Graph the equation.

  13. Remember, If no ‘x’ in equation, it’s a horizontal line. If no ‘y’ in equation, it’s a vertical line.
