  2. the Taskforce’s purpose • “To promote an active Business School community by engaging Alumni through their professional interests – and to assist Alumni in maximising development of their professional careers”. • The envisaged means to promote this community activity are events, career development services and special interest groups.

Progress to Date Acknowledgement from School that Alumni Careers Services are important Initial package of careers services developed and promoted to Alums Promise of more to come when Careers Service is in position to deliver Taskforce Next Steps Keep up pressure for dedicated resource in Careers Service for Alums Increase visibility of current service package Work with Careers Service to develop new service options for Alums around professional development and lifelong learning careers and professional development

Progress to Date Nurturing new groups, particularly targeting graduating students Assisting the development of a number of new groups including: Asset Management, Life Sciences, Strategy, Private Equity Supporting work of existing SIGs, including commitment to maintain level of support Taskforce Next Steps Work toward critical mass of SIGs (number / range unclear as yet) Develop good practice / “How To” guide for Alums considering developing SIGs Assist development of the online presence of SIGs via the Portal special interest groups (SIGs)

Ethics Ongoing work between Alumni Volunteers and the School to develop best practice guidance for intra-Alum relations Decision Making Processes Codified Modus Operandi for the group Reached consensus on model for decision making and action Should be possible to replicate across IAB PARM Pilot Proactive Alumni Relationship Management – developing a proposal for regular outbound communication with Alums, to be piloted in 2004 subject to Exco assent and budget approval Improving Communication Posting minutes on the Forum Starting discussions on the Forum about SIG development Need to work on this other Taskforce initiatives

  8. going forward • Lots of work in progress – careers, SIGs, PARM, Ethics • An eventful year, with much debate, some frustrations but ultimately a constructive positive way of working • A new chair, but hopefully a smooth transition • Collaborative work with other taskforces is important • An important area of work which can really help strengthen the relationships between the School and Alums and within the Alumni Community itself
