  1. What Is Short Term Disability? An illness or injury, including pregnancy, that prevents a person from working for a short period of time is typically referred to as a short-term disability. In most cases, a short-term disability is one from which an employee expects to recover in short period of time.

  2. What Is Short Term Disability Insurance? Short Term Disability Insurance is insurance that pays you if you are to become temporarily disabled. It pays 60% of your normal wages until you are fully able to resume back work.

  3. Is there a difference between Family Medical Leave and Short Term Disability? • There is a difference between Family and Medical Leave (FMLA) and Short-Term Disability (STD). The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requires covered employers to provide up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave to eligible employees due to a serious medical condition. Whereas, short-term disability insurance is a flexible benefit (through The Standard), which pays a percentage of an employee’s salary if they become temporarily disabled/incapacitated, meaning they are unable to work for a short period of time due to sickness or injury.

  4. Who is my STD provider and where can I find their information? • Your STD provider is The Standard Company. • You can find more information by going to the following website: www.standard.com

  5. Where can I find the STD claim packet to start my claim? • Access Clayton County Public Schools website at www.clayton.k12.ga.us • Go to staff and click on benefits • On the benefits webpage, click on FMLA Forms, then click on STD claim packet to print application.

  6. Once you have completed the application, the process is as follows: What is the process after I have completed the STD claim application?
