  1. Jesus: No ordinary man Matthew 9:35-36 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

  2. WHAT WORLD DO YOU LIVE IN???? • A world in which the Kingdom of God is actively and visibly apparent? • There are two Kingdoms • Many people have heard of the Kingdom of God but believe that it is a far off … yet to be encountered reality…

  3. The Center of Jesus mission and message… The Kingdom of God has arrived … in Jesus the King! He is the Living and Powerful God active in our lives and circumstances right NOW!

  4. The “Kingdom of God” is the theme of Jesus teaching and ministry The Story p. 277 … Again Jesus began to teach by the Lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that He got into a boat and sat in it out on the Lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge. He taught them many things by parables … When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. He told them, “The SECRET OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD has been given to you.

  5. Do I understand the “Secrets of the Kingdom of God?” • Do I even know that there is a Kingdom of God active on the earth? • Do I understand that much of the difficulty and struggle of this planet is two Kingdoms at war? • Do I realize that Jesus coming … changed everything unleashing Kingdom of God power?

  6. The “Kingdom of God” is the theme of Jesus teaching and ministry. • Referenced over 60 times in Jesus recorded teachings. • The kingdom of God is a governing motif of the NT appearing well over 100 times. • Jesus message: the Kingdom of God present, accessible and it’s power overturning all usurpers and trespassers on the planet.

  7. B. Jesus methodology: Matthew 9:35-36 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

  8. Jesus ministry a complete fulfillment of OT prophetic teaching regarding the coming Kingdom of God… • God’s promise in creating a people Israel out of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob • King David’s reign a prototype of a future coming Kingdom…although short lived and flawed by human sin. • The Prophets always predicted a Greater King … The Son of David… The Messiah!

  9. D. The Kingdom of God breaking in on the planet in His Kingly rule Matthew 3:2 “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near. (John the Baptist preaching of Jesus) Matthew 4:17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.” Mark 1:15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!”

  10. E. Jesus Himself as King • A Kingdom that has power to transform individual lives • A Kingdom whose King gives Himself completely to win the residents of the Kingdom. • A Kingdom whose ethic and character far surpassed human’s frail efforts…

  11. II. What is the Kingdom of God? • The rule of God in Christ over people, circumstance and situations and all that exists. • A Kingdom that cannot be controlled but must be invited. • Christ’s miracles demonstrate Kingdom authority and power

  12. A. The Kingly rule of God unleashed over a people, circumstance or situations Luke 17:20-21 Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within(in your midst) you.”

  13. The Kingdom is the Place/Sphere in which Jesus the King rules • Man’s incapacity … b. Man’s disease and captivity c. In the feeding of the five thousand and four thousand the feasting image of the kingdom is symbolized (Mk 6:39–44; 8:1–9).

  14. The Kingdom means God the King is within our reach. • The nearness (accessibility) of the Kingdom • The character of the Kingdom … the sermon on the Mount… Matthew 5-7 • Relationships of the Kingdom 4. The Rock solid steadfastness of the Kingdom

  15. Jesus miracles demonstrate His royal authority and power. 1. Jesus is the King over nature • Jesus is the King over the spiritual forces that exist 3. A woman who had run out of hope and help …touched the hem of Jesus robe. 4. Jesus is the King over impossible circumstances of our lives … 5. Jesus is the King over death …

  16. The Kingdom of God is to be entered into by receiving Jesus Himself… • The Kingdom of God is found in Christ Himself … • Jesus declares His identity to the Roman authorities … John 18:37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”

  17. Kingdom entrance only in Christ • This is a kingdom of which one becomes a citizen not by natural birth but by new birth. John 3:3 In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. 4. A final picture of a King defeating death… Matthew 28:5-7

  18. What on earth is God up to? Mark 4:3-9 3 “Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times.” 9 Then Jesus said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

  19. The Question: What kind of soil are you? • Hard packed … no longer willing or able to receive Kingdom truth? • Rocky soil … receives the truth but it can take no root so that when the struggle of kingdom of earth over shadows Kingdom Life fades • Soil full of thorns and weeds … the activities of life and distractions choke out Kingdom of God reality • Good Soil … receives Kingdom Life and Truth in Christ … produces harvest 30, 60, 100 fold

  20. Gut Check today: • If Kingdom entrance comes because I receive the King into my life and put my trust in Him, am I a Kingdom of God resident? • Do I live express my residency and authority as a Kingdom son or daughter? • Is the Activity of God flowing out of my life so that someone would come and notice? • Do I realize that this King is coming back again?

  21. Conclusion: Jesus ministry always calls for response … what is yours today? • A New found Faith in Him. • A New commitment to allow Him to work through you and in you. • A New surrender to His Lordship over some areas of your life…blindness, sickness, attitudes? • A New Hope in the midst of life’s tough stuff?
