  1. Towers Defend your keep!! International Towers Association ITA George Drewry, Edward Field, RafeSadlier, Alex nisbet

  2. How we came up with the game • First we considered the sports we might like to take ideas from • Dodgeball. • Rugby • Football • And a few extra elements. • First we decided the aim, to knock over three towers. • We worked out how to incorporate the rugby ball. • Finally we worked out all the technicalities such as what happened when the rugby ball was dropped and how the goalkeeper worked. • We did not make many changes to the original, we came up with the idea quickly and when we decided on it and it worked well, nobody wanted to make any extra changes

  3. Introduction to towers • The aim of the game is to capture the rugby ball to score as many points as possible. • The rugby ball is surrounded by three ‘towers’ which are three cricket balls on tall stands. • The cricket balls must be knocked over for the rugby ball to be obtained. • No players are allowed in an oppositions outer D (semi circle in which the Towers are situated.)

  4. Equipment • 2 rugby balls • 10 cricket ball holders • 5 dodge balls • 12 players. • 1 pitch • 6 cricket balls (astro or sports hall. Possibly field) • Kit for each player (see slide later)

  5. Setup • The three towers are set up in a triangle around the ruby ball inside the outer D, along the inner D. So both sides should have a formation of balls like this. Then the five dodge balls are lined up on the centre line evenly spaced out. Two Ds one is black and one is red. the towers are setup on the outside of the red. • The two teams consist of 6 players each, a regular setup is 3 attackers 2 defenders and 1 goalie. However this can be changed to accommodate different numbers of participants.

  7. Rules • To score, the team must use the ‘cannonball’ (which is differently coloured. And smaller)which is one of the dodge balls to knock over the three towers in order to enter the D and try and bring back the ruby ball to their D. • When trying to knock over the towers the team must try and avoid being hit by other dodge balls or else they are out and must wait for the next play. If all players are knocked out the other team are given the cannonball for the next play. • After the towers are knocked over the players may enter the D and pick up the ruby ball and run back to their D without being intercepted by a dodge ball or another player. • If possession is turned over do not stand up already knocked over towers. Only do so when the rugby ball is obtained.

  8. Technicalities • If a tower is accidently without the ‘cannonball’ knocked over it is reset and the team who knocked it over must retreat back to behind the halfway line for a free throw . • No player may enter the black D unless they are the keeper, the keeper may not touch the towers but may defend them by interception. But when the towers are all down then anyone may enter that D. • The towers can be knocked over by a rebound off the floor.

  9. More technicalities • If when the rugby ball is being brought back it comes out of the side-lines then the team must retreat back and the ball is replaced with 1 tower. • If a tower is knocked off by the defender in the D, the clock is immediately stopped, allowing time for the ball to be put back on the tower, then play is continued, with the other team having a free throw. • Play is split up into two halves, each lasting about 10 minutes. When that half is over, the clock stops for about a minute-and-a-half, allowing the teams swap ends, then play is continued.

  10. Health and safety • There must be no physical contact. Any physical contact will result with the other team having a free throw. • Viewing is allowed, but up on a balcony, or on the side-lines surrounding the pitch • Any illegal drugs found in the body, or any clothing on the body featuring any animal on the C.I.T.E.S., that team will be immediately disqualified.

  11. Miscellaneous • This game is designed to be played outdoors in the summer, and indoors in the winter or if it’s raining, so the game can be played all year round. • This game can be for anyone, regardless of age (but up to 65 is recommended). There can also be a wheelchair version without too many modifications.

  12. Referee • There are two referees, one for each half of play and two assistant refs for the dodgeballs

  16. Score

  17. The Hit • When hit the ref will give the signal for the player hit to stand on the side for the rest of the play. • The play equals, a tower being knocked over, a foul, or a dead ball. • When off the player must not enter the pitch. If they do they will be taken out for 5 minutes regardless of plays. • When you go out take the dodgeball that hit you out with you.

  18. Rules with the Rugby Ball • With the ball in hand players can pass forward or back but if the ball goes down it is returned to the D • If you get touched chicken scratch to a player on your team. • 3 touches turnover • Or if the ball goes down (touches the floor) • When you reach your own D you score 2 points

  19. Kit • The official kit is a reversible blue and red polo shirt (similar to that of the Beacon School) plain trainers (if indoors non marking soles) white/ dark blue shorts and long socks. • However if not done officially all that is needed is different coloured bibs and a sports kit. • Base layers allowed.

  20. Things that did not go so well… • In the beginning all the towers were one cone high and we found that they were very hard to hit, so we made the central tower a stack of three cones to increase the chance of hitting it. This greatly improved the game

  21. Modifications from experimentation • Bigger towers • Two D’s, one red and one black. • The cannonball is smaller than all the other balls, for easier throwing.

  22. ITA

  23. ITA • The International Towers Association is the main governing body of Towers, Towers tournaments are held by them 4 times annually. Any team may enter the tournament as long they are officially registered with them and have all the required stuff. • Along with sponsorships the ITA funds the clubs or schools who need official equipment • Therefore all disciplinary problems are regulated by the ITA. • Official tournaments are held in major city’s in England i.e. London. • Please visit website http://i-t-a.weebly.com
