  1. Wildlife Management Practices and Techniques

  2. What is Wildlife Management • It is an important part of wildlife conservation. • It is the ability to manipulate a wildlife system to achieve a desired goal. • It includes habitat production and human use of wildlife

  3. Management Activities • Bird Banding • Placing a band on the leg or neck of birds. Each band is individually numbered, identifying that bird to researchers. This information is used to determine migration routes, set annual hunting/harvest regulations, and to help maintain populations.

  4. Management Activities • Trapping and Transplanting • Used to boost low wildlife populations or to develop new populations. • Canada Geese in Georgia

  5. Management Activities • Land Management • Used to provide a secure habitat for species that require specially protected areas. It is most common in wildlife management areas or refuges. • Areas of land that are set aside from development for the use of wildlife and recreation only.

  6. Management Activities • Wildlife Population Survey • A count of the number of wildlife in a area. This practice gives information about the population of a particular species. • Waterfowl are counted by air, alligators are counted by boat at night.

  7. Management Activities • Vegetation Survey • Used to determine the kind of and amount of vegetation present in important wildlife areas. Used to ensure that food supplies are not in danger of being depleted.

  8. Management Activities • Wildlife extension work • Educates the public on the importance of protecting habit and wildlife populations. • Many people and different government agencies are involved in this type of management.

  9. Management Activities • Implementation of Regulations • Made on the state and federal level. • Cover hunting seasons, limits, protection of endangered plants and animals.
