  2. Power Tower • A solar power tower works by having a large field of sun tracking mirrors, called heliostats. They all surround the tower and use the sun rays to direct them at the top of the tower. The heliostats direct all the sun rays to the top of the tower. The top of the tower has water or molten salt in it which usually gets heated to 550-1500 degrees Celsius. The water then turns to steam which turns a turbine and generator the makes electricity.

  3. Pros Its renewable Reduces dependence On fossil fuel Give off very little pollution. Cons Its need to be in a spot were the sun shines over 60% of the time Its expensive to build It can only generate electricity in the day time Power tower

  4. Active Solar heating (hot water) • Heats water by collecting suns rays • It can provide up to 80% of the houses hot water • Its cheap

  5. Passive Solar Space Heating • Windows collect suns rays and distributes it as heat throughout the house • The windows distribute the solar energy in the form of heat in the winter and rejects the solar heat in the summer. • Cheap and saves money

  6. Low Flow Toilets • These toilets only use 1.6 gallons of water when flushed • Its easily installed by hand and saves on water bill

  7. Straw Bale Insulation • The straw is stacked around the perimeters of the building to insulate the building, it’s a very good insulator. • Its meant for a one story building • Its cheap

  8. Composter • Compostable waste goes into a barrel or bin • Cheap • Reusable • Makes soil
