  1. THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM BY: PAULA GONZALEZ

  2. The Circulatory System • The circulatory or cardiovascular system is a transportation system that takes food, oxygen, and water to your cells and removes waste such as carbon dioxide.

  3. The System Made Simple The left side of your heart sends oxygen-rich blood out to the body.  Blood leaves the heart through a big artery called the aorta, as it flows it drops of nutrients and oxygen providing cells with the fuel so they can work properly. The blood picks up carbon dioxide and other waste products away for disposal; solid waste is dropped of at the kidneys while carbon dioxide is disposed in the lunges.‪‪‪The right ventricle pumps the blood to the lungs  In the lungs, carbon dioxide is removed from the blood and sent out of the body when we exhale. When we inhale, a fresh breath of ‬‬oxygen and nutrients enters the blood and the process starts again. The most incredible thing is that it all happens under a minute‬!

  4. The Heart • Your heart has two sides. • The right side of your heart receives blood from the body and pumps it to the lungs. The left side of your heart receives blood from the lungs and pumps it to the body. • The heart has four blood-filled areas called chambers. Two on each side. The ones on the top are called atria. They are the chambers that fill with blood returning to the heart. The chambers on the bottom are called the ventricles, there is the right ventricle and the left ventricle they squirt out the blood to the body and lungs. • The heart also has four valves. • The mitral valve and the tricuspid valve letblood flow from the atria to the ventricles. The aortic valve an the pulmonary valve control the flow as the blood leaves the heart. • The heart handles three types of circulation: • Coronary circulation: the flow of blood within the heart itself. an own network of blood vessels that take nutrients and removes waste • Pulmonary circulation: is the flow of blood through the heart to the lungs. when blood reaches the lungs in drops of carbon dioxide to breath out and takes in the oxygen that you breath in. the oxygen-rich blood id then taken to the heart • Systemic circulation: it uses the major arteries and veins to move the oxygen-rich blood throughout all your body reaching all the organs and body tissues

  5. The Blood • Blood is made up of four things, they all work together to help or make your blood, • red blood cells, which carry oxygen throughout the body • white blood cells, which fight infections • platelets, which are cells that help you stop bleeding if you get a cut • plasma, a yellowish liquid that carries nutrients, hormones, and proteins throughout the body

  6. Arteries and Veins • Blood flows through two different kind of tubes, the arteries and veins. This two tubes together are called the blood vessels. • Blood circulates through you body in a network of blood vessels. It moves from your heart to your arteries, the blood goes to smaller blood vessels called capillaries, and then into the veins and back to the heart. • The blood vessels are attached to the heart. • Arteries carry blood away from the heart. • Veins carry blood back to the heart. Artery Veins

  7. DISEASES • Blood clots: is a clump of blood • Aneurysms: a bulge in a healthy blood vessel, if the aneurysm bursts a person will most probably die, they tend to form in the aorta.

  8. FUN FACTS • The heart is an involuntary muscle meaning that it works all the time without you needed to tell him to beat • Your heart is a muscle that is the size of your fist. • When you run around a lot, your body needs a lot more oxygen-filled blood. Your heart pumps faster to supply the oxygen-filled blood that your body needs. • Humans and other mammals have a closed circulatory system,
