DAV MISSION STATEMENT • “Made up exclusively of men and women disabled in our nation’s defense, the Disabled American Veterans is dedicated to one, single purpose — building better lives for all of our nation’s disabled veterans and their families. • This mission is carried forward by: • Providing free, professional assistance to veterans and their families in obtaining benefits and services earned through military service and provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and other agencies of government; • Providing outreach concerning its program services to the American people generally, and to disabled veterans and their families specifically; • Representing the interests of disabled veterans, their families, their widowed spouses and their orphans before Congress, the White House and the Judicial Branch, as well as state and local government; • Extending DAV’s mission of hope into the communities where these veterans and their families live through a network of state-level Departments and local Chapters; and • Providing a structure through which disabled veterans can express their compassion for their fellow veterans through a variety of volunteer programs.”

JUNIOR VICE COMMANDER JVC RESPONSIBILITIES • It shall be the duty of the Junior Vice Commander to assume the office of Senior Vice Commander in the event of the Commander's absence, death, resignation, or removal from office. • To accomplish this, the Junior Vice Commander must know the Senior Vice Commander’s job & responsibilities! • The Junior Vice Commander will also perform the function of Chairperson of the Americanism Committee.

JUNIOR VICE COMMANDER • The Junior Vice Commander will plan, with the assistance of the Americanism Committee, the chapter’s observance of & participation in all Federally recognized patriotic holidays, i.e. Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, POW/MIA Recognition Day & Veterans Day. • The Junior Vice Commander will coordinate with the Americanism Committee, the observance of each of the five service branches respective birthdays: U.S. Army – 14 June; U.S. Coast Guard, 4 August; U.S. Air Force, 18 September; U.S. Navy, 13 October; U.S. Marine Corps, 10 November.

  6. JUNIOR VICE COMMANDER • The Junior Vice Commander & Americanism Committee will work with civic organizations, i.e. Boy Scouts, JROTCs, and other Veteran Service Organizations, (VSOs), for events such as flag disposal ceremonies or other such events that bring credit upon the DAV and support efforts of these groups. • The Junior Vice Commander will report to the Executive Committee & chapter in general session, all activities planned for chapter participation in a timely manner.

  7. JUNIOR VICE COMMANDER • The Junior Vice Commander will coordinate with the Publicity Chairman for media coverage of all chapter activities in conjunction with patriotic event participation & submit a report to the Department Senior Vice Commander when patriotic events have been observed or participated in by the chapter.

  9. JUNIOR VICE COMMANDER • It shall be the duty of the Junior Vice Commander to serve as Ex-Officio member of all the committees, standing or special. • It shall be the duty of the Junior Vice Commander to supervise the Chapter Veterans Affairs Committee. • Itshall be the duty of the Junior Vice Commander to perform the duties assigned to his or her office in the official DAV Ritual, Department Constitution and Bylaws, National Constitution and Bylaws, mandates and directives.
