  4. Note: several countries in the world have higher rates.

Findings : • The number of fatalities on the roads of Oman is a factor 4 higher than the best countries in the world. • The number of vehicles on the roads is still rising rapidly (8%/year) • The number of road accidents increased over 2000/01 but the number of fatalities was lower than the previous years.

  6. Speeding: the number one offence on the roads

  7. Findings : • Rollovers are real killers: the fatality rate for rollovers is a factor 4 higher than for collision. • Accidents with pedestrians have a higher risk of fatality: the pedestrian is NOT protected.

  8. Speed is the number one cause of accidents!

  9. 20-25% of fatalities are pedestrians ! Fatality rate for pedestrian is higher than driver/passenger

  10. Man have more accidents and injuries than woman.

  11. Wednesday/Thursday see more accidents.

  12. Findings: • Muscat and Batina are the regions with most traffic and most incidents. • The fatality rate in the area’s outside Muscat is much higher, especially Batina and Dakhaliah. Probably because the speeds are higher on these roads with less traffic.

  13. Horrendous accidents with the worst one: 46 death (2002)
